Fundraising Tips & Tricks

  • Be specific -- It's easier to raise money when there is something specific and tangible you're raising money for.  "Raising money for our spring playoffs trip" is a lot better than "Raising money for the baseball team" because the person you're selling to probably remembers some fun trips they went on as students. "Raising money for costumes" is more specific than "Raising money for drama club" because it's obvious that costumes cost money, i.e.the money isn't going into the "cast party slush fund."
  • Spread the word electronically -- A major benefit of a ThatTutorGuy.com fundraiser is that everything can be done online. So put it in the newsletter, hit the biggest email list you've got, have everyone in the organization reach out to relatives and friends at other schools, text & tweet, share on facebook, reach out to alums and ex-members, the sky is the limit.
  • Booths & events are good too, though -- If your organization puts on any events that involve tickets or signups, handing out small flyers at the ticket booth is a great way to get your link in people's hands.
  • Collect emails -- Don't have much of an email list? Rather than passing out flyers that people might loose, instead you can set up at a busy location or event at your school and get interested customers to give you their email. That way you can email them the link later, along with more info and an inspirational story about what you're raising money for.
  • Repetition and Deadlines are key -- Just emailing your list once isn't enough. You've got to remind people. And that goes for your organization too: when you're trying to get students motivated to spread the word, giving them a month or two isn't as effective as making a drive out of it with an end date in mind.
  • Accountability can reap big rewards -- Make your salespeople accountable by tracking their progress individually. We can help you track which members of the organization are making the most referrals and most sales, so you can reward the best fundraisers with special prizes or honors. (Prize ideas: Giant candy bars? No homework for a day? Coach for a day? Ice cream with the principal? Be creative!) Accountability is key to maximizing results, and our program will be so lucrative for your organization that you'll want everyone to pull their weight.
  • Make sales when you're interacting with people anyways -- When you sell tickets to events (or at events), tell customers you're doing a fundraiser and give them a card or slip with the program on it. Just by being there, the people who attend your events are already showing you they support your program, so it's a perfect time to let them know other ways they can help. And in this case, they're solving a problem in the process.
